How to Stay Warm If Your Furnace Goes Out

Young woman shivering during the winter seasonMornings can be brisk, but this is ridiculous. You’re standing at your thermostat shivering when it dawns on you that your furnace isn’t operating right. Uh-oh! You are quick to make the call to Alltech Services, Inc. for a furnace repair in Ashburn, but you aren’t the only one who made that call. It is going to be a while before your technician can reach you and get that repair done. So, now the question is, how do you stay warm?

Furnaces rarely break down when it is convenient for us. That is why it is a good idea to have some, well, ideas on how you can stay warm until your heater is back to normal. We can help with those furnace repairs and some great ideas to help you keep warm until the job is done.

5 Ways to Stay Warm Without Your Heater

When the heater goes out, it may take some time to get it fixed. Here are some ways to help you stay warm in the interim.

1. Get moving

Do you have a favorite exercise routine? What about a fun dance you want to try out? Whatever it is, just get moving because it will help you warm up. Trust us, if you start dancing around the living room or doing some jumping jacks you are going to heat up pretty quickly.

2. Do some cooking or baking

Using your stove and/or your oven can create quite a bit of heat. This is great news when you are looking for a way to heat things up in your home. Get some baking or cooking done to heat things up in the kitchen and allow things to warm up in other parts of the home as well.

3. Use some sunlight

Sometimes sunlight can be exactly what is needed to ward off a chill. Do the opposite of what you want to do in the summer: let the heat in! If you have windows that get a lot of sunlight throughout the day, it can help to open the blinds and curtains to let the sun warm things up.

4. Layer up

If there was ever a time to go all out with your warmest sweaters, socks, and even blankets, it would be now. Get your favorite thick sweater out and layer it on top of a long-sleeve shirt. Get some thick socks on under a pair of cozy slippers. Those layers are going to help you keep your body heat close-by, allowing you to feel warmer.

5. Make something warm to drink

Put the kettle on and get some water boiling for tea or coffee. Or maybe go for a holiday theme and heat up some apple cider or make some nice warm hot chocolate. Warm drinks are going to help you heat up from the inside-out. Plus they taste oh so good.
